Dr Toni Williams and Professor Martin Roderick have accepted new positions with the International Society of Qualitative Research in Sport and Exercise and the associated journal Qualitative Research in Sport, Exercise and Health.

Toni has been elected as president of the society, having previously served as treasurer since it was founded in 2019.

The society was established to bring together researchers from different disciplines who are interested in qualitive research to network and share ideas.

Global ambitions

Her new role will see her take the lead in driving the society forward as it aims to expand on its 300 members to reach even more qualitative researchers around the world.

One of her first tasks will be to support a satellite conference at the University of Santiago in Chile as part of work to reach out to academics where English is not their first spoken language.

Supporting qualitive research

Meanwhile, Martin has taken up the role as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Qualitative Research in Sport, Exercise and Health (QRSEH) alongside Professor Kerry McGannon, Professor of Psychology at Laurentian University in Canada.

The journal aims to support and promote advancement and debate of qualitative research within the sociology of sport, sport and exercise psychology, sports coaching, and sports and exercise medicine.

It also provides access to researchers, practitioners and students to read about the latest scholarly works in the field as well as to learn about the latest developments in qualitive Sport and Exercise Science research.

Working together we can take a collaborative approach to fostering the future growth of the society and the journal. These prestigious leadership positions will also strengthen the international reputation of the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences (DSES) at Durham University as global leaders in qualitative research in the social sciences.
