Following the success of last year’s inaugural Botanic Garden Fun Day, this has now become an annual event and will take place on Sunday 16 June, from 10am-4pm. This family-friendly, Fun Day offers loads of free activities, all in the beautiful surroundings of the Garden.
Visitors are invited to explore the Garden and enjoy face-painting and craft activities throughout the day, as well as learning about the plants and animals that live there.
There will be live music from local musicians the Mandolin Orchestra and Pittington Brass Band, who will be performing on the lawn.
Storyteller, Tilly Too Tales, will be entertaining children with stories based on nature and the Honey Man, local Bee keeper George Soppit, will be on hand with his bees, to explain the vital role they play in sustainability.
Student Volunteers from 'BioBlitz' will be running pond dipping sessions, nature trails and guided walks to discover the Garden’s wildlife in its natural habitat.
The ‘Friends of the Garden’ will be holding their ever popular Plant Sale, along with the Teesside branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society who will be selling cacti and succulents. Members of the societies and representatives from conservation charity Plant Heritage, will available to answer queries and offer advice on all manner of gardening issues.
Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic and set up for the day, or simply relax and take in the atmosphere with light refreshments for the Café.
What better way to spend a summer’s day?
Normal admission charges apply but all activities are free of charge, £5 adults, £4.50 Concessions. Children (16 and under) gain free entry. Free parking is available in the Visitor Centre car cark and the overspill car park at the adjacent Maths & Computer Sciences building.
