This prestigious Prize recognises Professor Magee’s pioneering research illuminating complex mathematical concepts.
The Philip Leverhulme Prizes honour rising researchers whose innovative work is already making global impact.
These exciting awards go to early-career academics with big ideas and whose future research career is exceptionally promising.
As a part of the Prize, Professor Magee will be awarded £100,000 to advance his cutting-edge research. The Prize is awarded by the Leverhulme Trust.
Professor Magee has pioneered new techniques that are advancing the frontiers of mathematics and could catalyse innovations in diverse fields.
He has resolved many complex mathematical problems relating to hyperbolic surfaces.
In particular, he has played an instrumental role in the development of the study of the spectral geometry of random hyperbolic surfaces.
Moreover, working with other mathematicians, Professor Magee has developed techniques for integration over moduli spaces and solved problems in number theory using ideas from thermodynamics.
In addition to the Philip Leverhulme Prize, Professor Magee is also the recipient of European Research Council Starting Grant (2020) and London Mathematical Society Whitehead Prize (2021).
