In its Budget of Wednesday 15 March, the UK Government announced its intention to create 12 low-tax investment zones to boost economic growth.
Our Vice-Chancellor and Warden, Professor Karen O'Brien, responded to the announcement: “We warmly welcome the Government’s proposal to establish investment zones in the North East of England and look forward to working with partners in supporting future bids.
“Focusing on support to innovation hubs clustered around the region’s universities would allow the region to further access and leverage the skills and research expertise of Durham University.
"It will also enable strong and powerful collaboration with our regional university partners, to deliver innovation support at scale aligned to our region’s key economic sectors.”
