Experts from our top-rated School of Education, in association with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune, have undertaken a unique training programme for teachers in India on ‘hands on-minds on-effective teaching and learning of science.’
The training was conducted as part of our new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IISER.
The training was attended by 45 school and higher education teachers from Maharashtra State Development of Educators and Enhancement in Delivery (MS-DEED) and Inspiring India in Research Innovation and STEM Education (Irise) programmes.
The day-long training event was aimed at sharing best practice in science teaching and promoting internationalisation of education.
The workshop highlighted that global challenges in education are similar and solutions can be found by working together.
The workshop was a valuable opportunity for participants to exchange ideas and insights on effective teaching methods and to promote collaboration between educators from different countries.
Our School of Education has established long-term partnership with IISER to collaborate in teaching, pedagogy and research.
As part of this collaboration, we are working with the outreach teams at IISER Pune on conducting teacher training programmes.
The training workshops are being led by Professor Catherine Montgomery, Deputy Executive Dean in our Faculty of Social Sciences and Health.
Professor M.S. Santhanam, Dean, International Relations & Outreach and Professor in the Department of Physics, IISER Pune, said: “We are glad to engage with Durham University as this collaboration will be mutually beneficial in terms of applying latest research, teaching techniques and best practices in the field to engage with students for promoting critical thinking and love for science learning.
