Holst's The Planets Suite and a celebration of orchestral music written across the twentieth century take centre stage for DUOS spring programme.
On Thursday March 9 at Gala Theatre, DUOS will be partnering with Durham University’s astronomers to provide an immersive journey through the cosmos showing simulations of deep space.
Before each movement there will be brief speeches about everything from the beauty of the galaxy; instrument science and how the Ogden Centre conducts their research.
Then on Friday March 17, in the incredible surroundings of Castle Great Hall, the Chamber Orchestra offer the opportunity to ‘lose yourself in the idyllic stylings of Malcolm Arnold and Albert Roussel, enjoy the intimate orchestration of Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin and leave the concert skipping after the dazzling energy of Ligeti’s Concert Românesc’.
Durham University Orchestral Society is made up of two orchestras: the Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra, priding themselves on being entirely student-led.
Mixing rehearsals and concerts with a vibrant social side, each Easter break DUOS go on tour to Europe and in the past have visited Madrid, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Ljubljana, Barcelona, and Munich.
