Durham University Classical Theatre (DUCT) are bringing 17th century London to 21st century Durham with this family-friendly Shakespearean comedy from February 16 - 18.
In a family-friendly show, produced in celebration of the 400th anniversary of the publication of the First Folio, DUCT are aiming to recreate the experience of Shakespeare’s Globe in Durham city centre.
A catastrophic shipwreck has separated twins Viola and Sebastian. In a bizarre and disordered new land and dressed as a man, Viola falls into a love triangle in this comedy of mix-ups, romance and hilarity.
The production promises to be a classic interpretation of the much-loved script, with all actors clothed in period-accurate attire and offering standing tickets in a Globe-esque “groundling pit”.
Dedicated to producing theatre shows written or set longer than one hundred years ago, DUCT is a Durham University Student Theatre company with a focus on the best-loved of classical texts and those featured on the National Curriculum.
As part of this, they are offering workshop opportunities for children’s classes and groups both inside and outside the theatre, and free tickets will be available for under-sixteen-year olds.
