Student volunteering week (7 to 13 February) is now well underway and has seen some great work done by our students over the last few days, but there is still plenty of time to get yourself involved!
Whether you’re looking to make a real difference to our wider community or perhaps just feel great about yourself – there’s something on offer for you.
Our students have been doing a stellar job over the last few days and have made some great inroads to improving the environment and helping out our local community. Congratulations to all that have got involved – and there’s plenty more to come!
In the second half of the week, there is still plenty to get involved with – you could do your bit for our environment by joining either the Stephenson College Beach Clean on Seaham beach or help spruce up our beautiful city with the Harry Potter Litter Pick – a litter picking event with a twist! The dress code is Harry Potter… and there’s a competition and prizes to be had! Both events are on Saturday 12 February.
Volunteering is always a great way to build skills and confidence when you’re looking for your first employments, so why not drop into the Volunteering for Employability Webinar from the VTeam at the University of West London and learn more about how volunteering experience can make a difference to your next steps. The webinar is on Friday 11 February.
if you’re looking for some more holistic activities, you could take a break from study and enjoy getting creative with Durham Minds in the Arts and Crafts session on Thursday 10 at the Palatine Centre, enjoy a stress-busting stroll around historic Durham in the Walking session on Friday 11, setting off from the Palatine Centre – or round the week off with some energetic activity in the well-being Zumba session on Friday 11 at Maiden Castle Sports Centre.
Whatever your motivation, please do get involved - not only will you start the weekend feeling really pleased with yourself, but you’ll also have had a great time.
