So far during this year:• Our position in the QS World University Rankings has risen from 86th to 82nd;• We’ve entered the world top 100 of the Times Higher Education’s Global Impact Rankings, which measure universities’ contributions to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), being ranked 87th; and• We moved up in the UK’s Complete University Guide from 7th to 6th.
In addition, in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022, published on Thursday 2 September, we ranked joint 162nd overall. We were pleased to rank 61st for International Outlook, up from 71st last year, which adds to the Times Higher Education recently ranking us among the world’s most international universities. We’re proud to have staff and students from over 130 countries, making Durham an outward-looking, globally-minded and inclusive University.
Our academics are changing the world through their pioneering research, tackling some of the major challenges facing society today. For example:• We’re exploring how sniffer dogs could be trained to detect Covid-19;• Our space scientists are at the forefront of efforts to explain the mysteries of the universe; and• Our writers and poets are winning international acclaim for how they challenge the way we think about ourselves and the world around us.Our students benefit from transformative, research-led teaching and, through our Colleges, Durham Students’ Union and Experience Durham, a wider student experience that is second to none.
