About

On behalf of the Coimbra Group, Durham University is delighted to be the host of the inaugural Climate Symposium for Rectors.

The central theme for the two-day Climate Symposium will be the role of universities as agents of transformative change for climate, nature, planetary health and society. It will reflect that universities are at the forefront of efforts to combat climate change and embed sustainability in all areas of life, and that it is now more urgent than ever that we address the climate emergency through research, education and policy engagement.

Durham University is committed to hosting a Symposium that will deliver a long-lasting legacy through a Durham Declaration, which will shape both the CG’s and the wider sector’s response to climate change, including through the upcoming UNFCCC COP30 Climate Conference, thereby enhancing further CG’s international influence.

We look forward to bringing together and welcoming all 40 CG Rectors to Durham to agree concrete actions to enhance further the role of universities as agents of transformative change for climate, nature, planetary health and society.
