On behalf of the Coimbra Group, Durham University was delighted to be the host of the inaugural Climate Symposium for Rectors, which also initiated the celebrations for the Coimbra Group's 40th Anniversary.
The central theme for the two-day Climate Symposium was the role of universities as agents of transformative change for climate, nature, planetary health and society. It reflected that universities are at the forefront of efforts to combat climate change and embed sustainability in all areas of life, and that it is now more urgent than ever that we address the climate emergency through research, education and policy engagement.
Durham University was proud to host a Symposium that will deliver a long-lasting legacy through a Durham Declaration, which will shape both the CG’s and the wider sector’s response to climate change, including through the upcoming UNFCCC COP30 Climate Conference, thereby enhancing further CG’s international influence.
