Specific Programmes

Durham has specific research exchange programmes with a limited number of universities worldwide. These are listed below with links to information about the specific exchange programme information and application procedures / timeframes.

Non-specific Programmes (Exchange partners)

Through our Exchange agreements with partners universities Durham may be able to support research opportunities for incoming exchange students. Typically, these are arranged where two Departments/academics already have close links and contact and where the two departments can agree between themselves to accept a research student. Since these are often supported by academics on a pro-bono basis an exchange is not guaranteed. Interested students should identify an academic and Department in which they wish to conduct research themselves. Research opportunities from our European Institutions may be eligible for financial support through the Erasmus+ programme, however, this is the prerogative of your home university and not Durham. Please check with your home university.

Non-specific Programmes (non-Exchange partners)

Some Departments may run visiting (doctoral) research student initiatives. These are not 'exchanges' (as they are not run on a fee-waiving bilateral basis) and may charge fees. These are also not run centrally by the International Office.  Instead, non-exchanges students should visit the webpages of individual Academic Departments (or use a search engine with (e.g.) 'Visiting Scholars Programme Durham University + your subject' or 'Visiting Academics Programme Durham University + your subject') to see what opportunities may exist.
