For all non-native English speakers (including students who attend universities in English-speaking countries,) submission of a copy of TOEFL-iBT score card (with a score of 61 or higher) is required (TOEIC or IELTS score is also accepted.)

Students who enrol in Kumamoto University through the Kumamoto University Short-Term Exchange Program are given priority for accommodations in the Kumamoto University International House, the dormitory for international students that houses over 200 international students. Located about 1.5km east of the campus, it takes about 10 minutes by bicycle from the International House to the university.
The cost of accommodation is 16,500 yen/month (£115/month).
Each faculty and school at Kumamoto have their own support structure. Support includes mental health care.
Average living expenses are approximately 80,000 JPY (£550) per month (including food, transport, accommodation and miscellaneous costs).
Exchange students must first apply for a 'Certificate of Eligibility' in order to obtain a study visa to enter Japan.
International students staying in Japan are required to enrol in the National Health Insurance Scheme (Approximately 1,200 JPY per month).
