Programme Information

Each UCalgary course is worth 3 units. Exchange students need to take 5 courses per semester (equivalent to 15 units/credits).

Academic Requirements/Restrictions

Exchange students are not able to take courses in the following areas:

  • Education
  • Medicine
  • Nursing
  • Veterinary Medicine
  • Neuroscience
  • MBA Program

Courses in the following areas may be limited for exchange students:

  • Haskayne School of Business
  • Kinesiology
  • Schulich School of Engineering

Language Requirements

The language of instruction at Calgary is English. If you are a non native English speaker you may be required to provide evidence of language ability.

Calgary Student Support

International Student Services (ISS) provides advice and programs to support all international students adjusting to studies at the University of Calgary and to life in Canada. These services are in addition to university-wide support from counselling to diversity (detailed below).

UCalgary have a Wellness Center to help you enhance your emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. They also offer a wide range of student support from Sport, Housing and supplies to IT support and Career advice.

Accommodation

On campus housing is not guaranteed for exchange students and must be applied for via the Residence Portal. Accommodation is in high demand so students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Accommodation rates for on campus accommodation can be found here (2024-2025).

Off campus accommodation is available but this is the responsibility of the student to source. Advice on off-campus housing can be found on the UCalgary Preparing for Arrival webpages.

Other Information

Exchange students must arrange their own comprehensive travel and medical insurance before coming to UCalgary.

There are compulsory fees for campus recreation ($46 per semester) and the Calgary transit service UPass ($165 per semester).

Summer Opportunities

The UCalgary International Summer Program is a 4-week program for international students interested in visiting Canada during the summer session.
