Supporting the Ogden Centre for Fundamental Physics
Durham University is a world leading centre of research in astronomy, cosmology and particle physics – a position cemented by the Ogden Centre for Fundamental Physics. The Centre has two buildings, the second a £11.5m building designed by Daniel Libeskind. It draws together a team of international scientists, postdoctoral researchers, and PhD students from more than 20 countries around the world.
We would like to say thank you to our fantastic alumni who have contributed to this achievement, including alumnus Sir Peter Ogden, whose generous gifts have made our amazing facilities possible.
As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Ogden Centre, we remain committed to conducting world-leading research - seeking to understand the beauty of the Universe as well as to discover practical solutions to real world problems such as climate change.
We're also grateful that our two buildings have been enriched by sculptures by John Robinson which were donated by Damon de Laszlo and Robert Hefner III.
Legacies
It is wonderful that our University community is able to count on supportive alumni passing on their good fortune either during their lifetime or after they are gone – or both. This is the case of one of our alumni who graduated in the early 1960s from Grey College who is currently a donor and plans to continue to support students in the future. Read his story here.
