Shedding Light on British Medieval Manuscripts

Examining the pigments and inks used in medieval manuscripts, using safe methods such as Raman spectroscopy to identify the chemicals and dyes that bring colour to the page, this project is led by Professors Andy Beeby (Chemistry) and Richard Gameson (History). In addition to work at Durham, they have developed a portable version of the kit, enabling work at Cambridge, Oxford, Aberdeen and Hereford.
