Liberate My Library!
This Black History Month, we’re highlighting the opportunity available to all Durham University staff and students to help us diversify our collections.
Liberate My Library is our ongoing initiative to help diversify our collections and increase representation from groups including BAME, gender and identity, LGBT+ and disability. We want our collections to represent our staff, students and local community that we are a part of.
To do this, staff and students are encouraged to put forward suggestions of relevant books and resource titles for us to purchase and make available within the Library.
How does it work?
To make a request:
- log in to our library catalogue, Discover
- search for the item
- click "Request" on the item record.
When completing the form, please make sure you enter “Liberate My Library” as the reason for your request. Alternatively, you can complete the "Request a Purchase" form from the menu at the top of the Discover homepage.
You can suggest titles for your studies or for leisure reading – both are as important as each other – and you can make as many suggestions as you like at any time throughout the year.
If we are unable to complete your request for any reason, we will contact you to let you know.
Titles already added to our collections
We have created a reading list of all the titles we have added to our collections through the Liberate My Library initiative, allowing you to browse titles for inspiration. If there’s a title you feel is missing, send us your request!
