Professor Cassandra Phoenix talks to BBC Radio 4’s Inside Health about physical activity in older age.
Tune in to BBC Radio 4s Inside Health programme this week, to hear Professor of Physical Activity and Health, Cassandra Phoenix contribute to a discussion on promoting healthier ageing through physical activity.
Reflecting on the experience, Cassandra, who also leads the Moving Bodies Lab as part of the Wellcome funded Discovery Research Platform for Medical Humanities, said “It was great to have the opportunity to be part of this conversation with a varied group of guests, all committed to enabling people to remain physically active as they age. Our research in the Department demonstrates the benefits of moving our body as we age for our health and wellbeing. It also shows how social and environmental factors impact people’s ability to capitalise on these health benefits, in ways that are often unequal. This scenario is an excellent example of why sport, physical activity and health are subjects that are often best understood by using combined knowledge from different disciplines and applied practices (physiology, psychology, sociology, policy, etc.) and why we advocate this approach at Durham.”
The episode of Inside Health will air on BBC Radio 4 on Tuesday 17th October at 9pm and again at 3:30pm on Wednesday 18th October, and will be available to download on BBC Radio Sounds.
