Highlights From Our Past Projects
For more than fifteen years the Science Engagement Team have provided a range of projects aimed at stimulating interest in science among young people, their teachers and the wider community. Here you can find details of some of our past projects, including the award winning 'What if...?'.
What if...?
What if…? won the Engaging Young People award in the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement’s Engage Competition. These prestigious awards aimed to find and celebrate high quality public engagement with research and the judges selected What if…? from over 230 entries.
MammalWeb
MammalWeb is a "citizen science" platform intended to collate, validate and curate camera trap data that can inform us about the distribution and ecology of mammals.
NETPark Connector
The NETPark Connector project aimed to embed innovation and raise aspirations in local communities using NETPark as a focus to build partnerships between the community, education, and businesses. The three year project was a joint initiative between Durham University and the CDDC.
Scopic: Stargazing Down a Microscope
Scopic - 'Stargazing Down a Microscope' was a joint science-arts project. Nearly 300 students from 11 schools in Durham and London took part in this unique project that encouraged young minds to engage in science using the arts. A permanent exhibition of their work was installed in the CLC in 2008.
Science Engagement at Lumiere
Science Engagement delivered a series of events for all the family during the Lumiere 2011 weekend, including a demonstration talk at the Gala Theatre and workshops at the World Heritage Site Visitor Centre. In 2017 we worked with schools to produce art inspired by the Cosmoscope installation.
