In this year, the Centre for Particle Theory was established, uniting efforts between the maths and physics departments. It had two co-directors, one from each department, and by 2024 had amassed 34 permanent members, and more than 60 research staff and students. The Centre was responsible for the creation of a new MSc qualification in Elementary Particle Theory, and now includes the IPPP which was established in 1999.
