Durham Law School announces that its team, led by Professor Volker Roeben, Dean of Durham Law School, Dr. Miguel Ángel Marmolejo Cervantes, Visiting Fellow, and Lisa Reilly Solís, Attorney at Jurado Graham Law Firm, has made significant contributions to the UK government’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) framework.
Their expert analysis, submitted during the consultation process, has directly influenced key policy decisions, underscoring Durham Law’s impact on national trade and climate policies.
Key areas where our team’s recommendations were recognized by the government include measures to reduce administrative burdens for UK importers by streamlining compliance processes through potential international agreements.
The government also took into account the importance of aligning CBAM with WTO standards to support fair international trade practices. Durham University has been identified as a key stakeholder, with the Law School ready to contribute to the UK CBAM industry working group and the international group. This involvement will ensure that Durham’s insights actively shape the evolving CBAM framework.
With CBAM draft legislation expected soon, Professor Roeben, Dr. Marmolejo, and Ms. Reilly Solís remain committed to supporting evidence-based, sustainable trade policy. Durham Law School will continue to provide expert analysis as this transformative policy progresses through the legislative process.
