On 28 and 29 September, Professor Thom Brooks was the keynote speaker for the Norwegian Association for Legal Philosophy. His public lectures were hosted at the University of Oslo Law School.
Both lectures focused on his signature ‘unified theory’ of punishment, a theory identified as one of the top 100 Big Ideas for the Future by RCUK. The first lecture was primarily theoretical exploring the need for penal pluralism and how a unified theory is possible. The second lecture focused on its application to sentencing guidelines and as a form of restorative justice. Brooks is Professor of Law and Government at Durham Law School and formerly Dean 2016 to 2021.
