Biography:

Mark became an Honorary Fellow of Durham Law School in September 2024.  After graduating in law from Oxford University in 1989 he qualified as a solicitor and practised in pensions law for 32 years in the London office of international law firm CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP, where he was a partner for 24 years and head of the team for the final 7 years.  He advised the trustees and sponsoring employers of some of the largest UK pension schemes.  

He achieved the Legal 500 Hall of Fame ranking in the Pensions Disputes field and the Chambers UK Senior Statesperson ranking in the Pensions Law advisory field.

He won ‘Leader of the Year in the UK Pensions Industry’ in the Pensions Management Institute’s Pinnacle Awards in 2023.

He is the author of The Pensions Ombudsman: Powers, Procedures and Decisions (Sweet & Maxwell) and contributor of chapters of The Pensions Law Handbook (Bloomsbury Professional) – 14th to 16th Editions.

He was an assistant editor of the Occupational Pensions Law Reports for many years and joint editor of the Journal of the International Pension and Employee Benefits Lawyers Association.

He was a member of the Association of Pension Lawyers Pensions Litigation Sub-committee for 10 years and an elected member of that Association’s Main Committee for 4 years and the Chair of the Pensions Ombudsman’s Liaison Group for over 10 years.
