Huge congratulations to Dr Alex Barber and Richard Pears for winning two awards at the 2024 Teaching and Learning Awards to celebrate excellence.

Nominated by peers from across the University, generating over 100 entries, the Durham Teaching and Learning Awards provide a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge those that have gone above and beyond in the roles to support teaching and learning.
This year we are delighted to announce that Dr Alex Barber won an award for 'Outstanding Contribution to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion'.
The award 'recognises an individual who has demonstrated commitment to fostering and inclusive and diverse learning environment thorough the implementation of strategies that promote equity and diversity in teaching and support services. Furthermore, this award rewards initiatives that enhance cultural competency and awareness and advocacy for underrepresented groups'.
Alex received the award for his tireless work in setting up the Bridging Course (now, as a result of Alex's initiative, being extended to other departments in Arts & Humanities) and in securing Durham's subscription to the GRT Pledge.
Alex was joined in his success by Richard Pears from the University Library who scooped a much-deserved 'Unsung Hero Award'. Richard has worked tirelessly with his team at the Library to support the delivery of the resources necessary for academics across our department and beyond to deliver teaching and research excellence.
