Post-offer Visit Day

Welcome to English Studies

Welcome to all our offer-holders! Our Post-offer Visit Day sessions in 2025 will run from 1.30pm to 5pm on Wednesday 19 February, Monday 24 March, Saturday 26 April 2025. We hope your visit will be enjoyable and informative. This page tells you what you can expect during your time with us.

Our Post-offer Visit Day sessions will take place in Lecture Hall ER201, Elvet Riverside 2

The Department of English Studies is situated in three buildings, two Georgian (Hallgarth House) and (42 Old Elvet), and one modern (Elvet Riverside), however the Post-offer Visit Days sessions cannot take place within the departmental buildings due to capacity.

After an introductory presentation from the Department Admissions Officer and/or the Head of Department, you will have an opportunity to sample some undergraduate teaching in the form of two mini-lectures or tutorials given by members of the Department. Each session will reflect a different specialism or period in English Literature, ranging from the medieval to the more modern.

These will be followed by a Q&A session.

You do not need to bring anything or read anything in advance, but since there will be opportunities to ask questions, you may wish to consider what you might like to know about studying English at Durham. The schedule of events is below. We look forward to meeting you!
