More Fiya is an exciting collection of Black British poetry, edited by Kayo Chingonyi from our Department of English Studies, that celebrates the legacy and evolution of the Black British poetry scene over the last 20 years and the crosscurrents that join music, performance and verse.

Durham Book Festival 2022

This special Durham Book Festival event will bring together and celebrate three powerful Black female voices from the anthology: Rommi Smith an award-winning poet, playwright, thea­tre-maker and performer; Warda Yassin a British-born Somali poet and teacher based in Sheffield and winner of the 2018 New Poets Prize; and Selina Nwulu: a writer and former Young Poet laureate for London with extensive experience of performing internationally she is also a leader within the civic sector working across social and climate justice as an independent consultant.

This event has been co-programmed by Durham Book Festival’s Young Programmers, who are taking part in Turn Up for the Books, a partnership project between New Writing North and English PEN, designed to give young people aged 16-25 an insight into careers within literature.
