Fluid Mechanics Node

The Fluid Mechanics node offers a range of expertise ranging from highly advanced theoretical study of fluid mechanics through to applied work with industry ranging from multinational organisations, SMEs to individual inventors. 

By way of example, we have conducted recent projects in Zero carbon aircraft, Vertical axis wind turbines, Compressed Gas Energy Storage, Wind turbine Wakes, Wind Turbine Erosion, gas turbine aerodynamics, advanced sealing technologies, geothermal Energy, Droplet Formation and more.

The node has a well-equipped laboratory with established wind tunnels and bespoke test rigs built for custom research projects.  We also have expertise in numerical modelling of fluid flow using both commercial computer codes and open-source tools.  Using both experimental and numerical modelling along with a robust understanding of the fundamentals of fluid mechanics is a key factor in delivering successful projects.
