Durham Solar Car Team achieves best ever result in Bridgestone World Solar Challenge
We are very excited to share that our Solar Car Team has done very well in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge and finished in 11th position in the Challenge Class of the competition.
History making team
Our Solar Car team made history by finishing the gruelling Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in under 6 days, the fastest ever time for Durham.
The team's latest solar-powered vehicle placed 11th in the Challenger Class, crossing the finish line in Adelaide after covering the 3000 km route from Darwin across the harsh Australian outback.
Built for performance
The single-seat vehicle was specially designed for efficiency and endurance, undergoing intense testing in Darwin before qualifying started on October 13.
The car showed impressive reliability with only a couple minor technical issues along the way.
Disaster nearly struck just 2 km from the end when a tyre puncture forced the team to quickly change to the backup motor to drive over the finish line.
The team is celebrating their best ever result at the event after years of experience and incremental improvements to their solar car design.
After a well-deserved rest, the team is already looking ahead to future innovations and competitions, with their sights set on an even better result in 2024.
