Durham University Hosts 'Celebrate Science' Event, Inspiring Young Minds During Half-Term Break
Durham University recently hosted 'Celebrate Science', tailored for young minds during the much-awaited half-term break.
The event buzzed with excitement as children and families delved into a world of interactive experiments and exhibits, igniting a spark of curiosity and wonder.
One of the highlights was Gary Parker's ingenious creation of a mini wind tunnel featuring playful ping-pong balls floating in the air, captivating the imaginations of the young attendees. The 'oohs' and 'aahs' were audible as the children marvelled at the wonders of aerodynamics in action.
Additionally, the Women's Engineering Society showcased the remarkable achievements of women in engineering through engaging posters and inventive colouring sheets, highlighting the often-unseen contributions of women in the field. Sophie Draper's creative flair shone through, leaving a lasting impression on the visitors.
The department extends heartfelt thanks to all the dedicated volunteers whose enthusiasm and involvement created an engaging experience for the participants. Namely: Nicholas Njopa-Kaba, Margaret Ogboji, Emilia Russell, Anna Weatherburn, Lauren Miller, Mujeeb Chaudhry, Mana Saeed, Heather Sanders, Ella Banks, Xuyan (Amber) Wu, and Gary Parker. The University is gearing up for future initiatives, inviting more young minds to join in the pursuit of scientific discovery and innovation. Next year, we will celebrate 100 years of Engineering at Durham.
