The intention of this project is to consider the extent to which the teaching of biblical studies in pre-ordination training in the Church of England shapes ministerial practice. This will be done by interviewing a number of curates who are currently ministering in the Diocese of Oxford but trained for ordination in a range of institutions. The interviews will cover how the curates use and interpret the Bible in ministry, their perceptions of the relevance and influence of their previous study and the nature of that study, together with gathering information about such factors as age, gender, prior education, church tradition. This data will be analysed to assess the impact on the curates’ practice of the biblical studies teaching they had received.
