The aim of this project is to investigate the distinctive contribution that art can make to the teaching and learning of the Old Testament. It seeks to explore and illustrate different ways in which art can be used to support the teaching and learning of particular Common Awards modules.
It is estimated that around 65% of the population are visual learners, and yet a high percentage of university teaching is delivered in a way which is primarily geared towards auditory or oral learners. Research into visual learning, together with concrete examples of teaching practice, is still underdeveloped in Higher Education contexts. This study hopes to contribute towards this important area of research.
This research will culminate in a resource for sharing on the Common Awards website, which will provide Old Testament tutors with links to a number of paintings, along with suggestions of the different ways in which this can be used to enhance teaching and learning on particular Common Awards modules.
