Chemistry at Durham is a thriving centre of scientific activity for teaching and for world-leading research in the chemical sciences.

Located at the heart of the University Science site and just 10 minutes’ walk from the city centre, we are a dynamic, research focused Chemistry Department in a top-100 University (QS ranking 2024). We are consistently in the top ten in major UK league tables and are currently 8th in The Guardian's University Guide, 4th in The Complete University Guide and 9th in The Times Good University Guide, demonstrating our commitment to quality teaching, research and student experience.
