We are really looking forward to welcoming you to St Mary’s College in February, March and April as part of the University’s Post-offer Visit Days! It will give you the opportunity to meet with both staff and students at the college and understand what life will be like for you when you come to Durham.

St Mary’s College is a warm and welcoming community comprised of undergraduate and postgraduate students from over 60 countries studying over 200 different degree programmes. Beyond supporting our students to succeed in their academic studies, St Mary’s takes great pride in celebrating the success of our students outside the classroom. Our Common Rooms support over 50 societies and sports teams, including: LGBTQIA+, Bake Society, Journalism, Volunteering, Chapel Choir, Football, Rowing, Table Tennis, and Rugby. Additionally, St Mary’s has a proud tradition of holding gowned formal dinners and hosting balls throughout the year.

Wednesday 19 February, Monday 24 March, and Saturday 26 April 2025

St Mary's College will be open between 9.30am - 12.30pm during the Post-offer Visit Days for you to drop-in and find out more about what our college has to offer! During this period, we will have tours around college and a Q & A with staff and students.

For those that are not able to make it to one of our Post-offer Visit Days, you can take a virtual tour of the college here.

Welcome from the JCR President - Hannah

Hey everyone, and a huge welcome to St Mary’s College! I’m Hannah, the JCR President at Mary’s this year. The JCR stands for the Junior Common Room, and basically just means the Student body. As President, I oversee all student activity like sports and societies, events, welfare, and all the admin and finance involved in the running of these. We have an amazing team of students who volunteer to be on the committee, which means that the JCR is run for students by students. We are so excited to welcome you to Mary’s, and show you everything we have to offer, and what makes us the best and friendliest college in Durham. We have a huge variety of sports and societies, with everything from Mario Kart to Mixed Lacrosse, and from a Wizarding Guild to Women’s Rugby. No matter who you are or where you’re from, there is something here for you, and you’ll be supported and encouraged in exploring all the new opportunities that Mary’s offers. We can’t wait to meet you soon to chat more about the start of your uni journey!

Welcome from the Senior POVD rep - Poppy

Mary's POVD Rep

Hi everyone, my name is Poppy, and I am the Senior POVD representative this year. Huge congratulations on receiving an offer from Durham; this is such an immense achievement in itself.

I can honestly say that the friendly reputation at Mary’s is absolutely true, and our incredible community has made my University experience so special. I am a proud netball C-team member (the best team around), and am Social Secretary for the women’s football team. As someone who didn’t have a huge sports background before University, I would encourage everyone to try something new at college level, since so many people will be in the same boat. The collegiate system at Durham is also so unique, and at Mary’s we take pride in both our community and traditions. From matriculation to gowned formals and balls, there are always brilliant events to be taking part in.

I am so excited to meet you all soon and hope to share a glimpse of what our fabulous college is all about.
