Evergreen: Enriching Your Experience

In 2025, St Cuthbert's Society launched the Evergreen Programme — a brand-new enrichment initiative unique to our community.

Cuth's Epiphany 2025

Designed to enhance the experience of students at St Cuthbert's Society and foster an even stronger, more curious, and more creative community, Evergreen brings together opportunities for personal and intellectual development.

The programme unites existing activities under a single banner, such as our annual trip to Lindisfarne, while also offering exciting new opportunities that complement and intersect with the many vibrant student-led initiatives already thriving at Cuth’s.

In Easter Term 2025, Evergreen launched with wellbeing activities led by the Student Support Team, hands-on sessions with a gardening and heritage craft expert, and an excursion to Northumberland.

Future activities will align with the University’s student development framework, cultivating leadership skills, ethical awareness, empowerment, curiosity, and creativity. Academic enrichment will also be central, including bespoke seminars and other events.

Durham's colleges are unique. Evergreen is a distinctive offer to students at St Cuthbert's Society, firmly rooted in the best of our history and ethos, where compassion, creativity, and curiosity come together. My hope is that this programme makes the student experience even more transformative, laying foundations for great futures for our students.

Principal

St Cuthbert's Society is located at the entrance to Durham's riverbanks, on the edge of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and close by the University's Sports Fields. We are surrounded by nature, and one hallmark of the programme is getting students away from their desks and into the great outdoors.

At the same time, as histories of the Society attest, our community has always been distinguished by academic excellence. Another aim of Evergreen, reflecting our passion for lifelong and continuous learning, is to enhance the academic experience of our students by encouraging creative and critical thinking.

At St Cuthbert's Society, we are interested in the whole person. Our hope is that, formed in a supportive and stimulating environment, our graduates face their futures with confidence. Evergreen is part of that journey.

Evergreen is all about broadening horizons and encouraging excellence, whether through hands-on activities indoors and outdoors, thought-provoking discussions, or community-led projects. As the name suggests, it celebrates our history and ethos as a place of lifelong learning—not to mention our attachment to that noble colour! #BleedGreen
