Exciting Events Ahead in Term 3 at Josephine Butler College

As spring turns to summer, Term 3 promises a lively and memorable finale to the academic year at Josephine Butler College. With a host of social, sporting, and celebratory events on the horizon, there is something for everyone in the Butler community to look forward to — from current students and finalists to alumni.

The term kicks off in style with the Sports Formal on 30th April, celebrating the achievements of Butler’s vibrant sporting community. This is swiftly followed by the Socs & Comms Formal on 7th May, recognising the incredible work of student societies and committees over the past year.

After this, we head into the exam period. Students can enjoy hot drinks and toast every morning during this period and JBs café will be open for brunch and lunch Monday through to Friday. The celebrations resume in early June as the College community comes back together for a number of enrichment and celebratory events.

One of the most anticipated events of the year, Butler Day, returns on 7th June. Expect a packed programme of entertainment, music, games, and community spirit, as students, alumni and staff come together to mark the end of another successful year at Butler. Shortly after, finalists will take centre stage at the Finalist Formal on 9th June — a chance to reflect, celebrate, and make lasting memories.

College pride will be on full display at Varsity on 12th June, when Butler faces off against our Mound neighbours, Stephenson College, in a day of friendly sporting rivalry.

Then comes the glamorous Summer Ball on 16th June. Held at the lovely Derwent Manor, this magical evening will, as ever, include a formal dinner, live music, student performances, and fairground rides under the summer sky.

The term continues with Colours Formal on 23rd June — a prestigious evening celebrating students who have gone above and beyond in their contributions to Butler life. This event is by invitation and recognises the spirit, service, and leadership of outstanding individuals across the community.

As the term draws to a close, the college shifts its focus to final goodbyes and celebrations of academic success. Graduation Week will run from 2nd to 9th July, with four Graduation Dinners planned for 2nd, 3rd, 7th, and 8th July. These special occasions offer a final chance for graduates and staff to gather in celebration and reflection.

Alongside student events, the College is also excited to reconnect with former students through a series of alumni meet-ups in May. Whether you're a recent graduate or a long-time member of the Butler community, these informal gatherings are a great opportunity to catch up with friends, share memories, and hear the latest updates from College. The meet-ups will be held in:

  • London on 15th May
  • Manchester on 22nd May
  • Newcastle on 28th May

Alumni can also return to college on the weekend of June 7th and 8th for an alumni weekend. Join current students and staff at Butler Day followed by a brunch the following day.

Alumni are warmly invited to register for the meet-ups and alumni weekend via the Josephine Butler College alumni events page.

Whether you’re donning your gown one last time or joining us to toast the achievements of your peers, Term 3 promises to be a season of celebration, reflection, and connection.
