Your Durham Inspiration

Do you remember why you first chose to study at Durham?

I chose Durham due to its reputation, the reputation of my supervisors and on the advice of my father and uncle who is an alumnus. I also chose it as my course was highly ranked when I applied for a scholarship, and due to Durham’s ranking in the top 100 universities. I am proud to be a PhD holder from DU.

Tell us about any sports, societies or clubs you were involved in at Durham.
I was a postgraduate student and studied a PhD in Biosciences. During my time at Durham I became a member of the Durham Venture Lab.

What are your fondest memories from your time here?

Durham is heaven with beautiful nature and wonderful people. We had a difficult yet beautiful time at Durham during the COVID pandemic.
I made a significant discovery in my PhD research. My supervisor gave me his famous red lab coat after he retired, and I found this moment magical.

How has Durham inspired you to get where you are today?

I am grateful to Durham; it is part of what I have become today. The knowledge and support provided, the great success stories from Durham Venture Lab and DU alumni have all provided me with inspiration and encouragement. Durham is exceptional.

You

What have you been up to since you left Durham?

Whilst at Durham I established VT Treatment – trading as Durham Skin Lab – manufacturing patented skin care products with a particular focus on eczema, psoriasis and vitiligo. We also have other UK-registered brands that offer high-quality cosmetic products and organic products. The company’s treatments are now found in pharmacies and skin care clinics across the UK and are registered in many countries worldwide. The company established the first vitiligo and psoriasis skin care centre in the North East of England. Together with Zephyr Skin Clinic we have supported patients in the UK and internationally.

Pass It On

What would be your top piece of advice for current students and/or recent graduates?

There are always good people that will help you achieve the best you can. Find them, love them and trust in God.
