New LinkedIn page for Durham alumni
We're launching a brand new page for Durham alumni and supporters on LinkedIn.
We’ve added another way for our alumni and supporters to share their news and stories with us, interact with us, and connect with our international alumni community on LinkedIn via our new Durham University Alumni page.
Our alumni community numbers over 200,000, with members from all walks of life, located in many countries around the world. Operating in an amazing array of professions, our global alumni community has incredible international diversity and breadth of experience. Students graduating from Durham may have reached the end of their studies with us, but their Durham journey continues as they go out into the world as part of this thriving community.
Alumni can already connect through alumni accounts on Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter) and Instagram. The new LinkedIn page will compliment these channels, and will sit alongside a pre-existing Durham University alumni group on LinkedIn.
The new page will keep our alumni up-to-date on what’s happening at Durham, allow for greater interactivity and connectivity with and within our community, and expand our presence into the professional realm of LinkedIn. At its heart, the page will showcase this amazing community and celebrate its achievements for all the world to see.
Connect with us
We encourage our alumni and supporters to follow our new LinkedIn page and tag us in your posts. Whether you’re working to organise an event for our forthcoming Dunelm Days celebration in November, want to share how you’ve helped future Durham students during an offer holder Q&A session, or simply want to express what being part of the Durham alumni community means to you, we’d love to hear from you.
And if you have a message, post or query that you wish to put directly to Durham alumni, why not also join the official Durham University Alumni group on Linkedin? While the new page celebrates the achievements of our alumni community publicly around the world, the group offers a private space for our alumni to mix and mingle amongst themselves. Alumni are encouraged to join here.
Read on for a couple of recent examples of how we’ve worked with our alumni to share their news through our channels, including LinkedIn. Hopefully this will inspire you to share your own stories with us!
Durham alumni chess team
L-R: Team members Peter Hornsby, Phil Purcell, Kamran Rachlin, Sam Walker & William Taylor
After a successful 2022-23 season in the World Chess League.Live, the Durham alumni chess team finished 5th out of over 100 international teams. Captain Peter Hornsby (Combined Social Sciences, St Cuthbert’s Society, 2013-16) contacted us to share the good news. He was able to provide a photo and screenshots of the team’s performance, together with details of the matches. From this, we created a news article on the alumni website, a further article in Newswire (our monthly alumni newsletter), and subsequent social media posts. This helped to amplify Peter’s original message, boost awareness of the team and their success, including an open invitation for new members.
We’re delighted to hear that as a result of this wider communication surrounding the team, they have already signed up a new player based in Ohio. We look forward to featuring further updates from the team as they compete internationally.
Sahil Kumar (MBA, University College, 2019-20)
Sahil has kept in close contact with us after completing his MBA at the Business School. He has been involved with Durham alumni in a variety of ways, including becoming the Chapter Leader for our Delhi Alumni Chapter in India and organising events for local alumni; participating in recruitment events, such as an in-person event in New Delhi in the summer, sharing his experiences of Durham as an alumni with prospective students; working with us as we highlighted his volunteering in our most recent issue of Dunelm magazine; working with the Business School to provide written advice for prospective students; and much more.
He is a very active member of the alumni community and regularly posts on his own LinkedIn account about his experiences.
Share your story
You can share your stories and updates with us by tagging us on LinkedIn, or by emailing alumni.volunteer@durham.ac.uk if you prefer.
While each story will be as unique as the individual members of our amazing alumni community, you may like to include your experiences of being a student at Durham, your fondest memories of your time here, or how Durham has inspired you to get to where you are today. And of course, we always like to see your photos of your time at Durham!
We look forward to seeing you on LinkedIn.
