Kenneth McFarlane
A boat for Hatfield College
After graduating, Kenneth McFarlane (Economics, Hatfield College, 1978-81) had a notable career as a chartered accountant and tax advisor.
Ken had fond memories of his time studying at Durham, during which he was a College Rep for Hatfield . A keen rower, he joined both the Hatfield and the University Boat Clubs.
Ken wished to remember Durham with a gift in his will. As Ken was a proud alumnus of Hatfield, his generous gift was used to purchase a new College rowing boat, a coxed four named “The Flower of Scotland”. The boat launch included a formal celebration with Ken’s family and friends, the Hatfield College Boat Club, and College representatives gathering on the riverbank in his memory.
The Flower of Scotland is a great asset to Hatfield College Boat Club and will enrich College life for both current and future generations of students.
The Flower of Scotland has been an amazing addition to our fleet. We are incredibly lucky to be able to row in such a high-quality boat and cannot wait to race it for the first time at Durham Small Boats Head.
