LGBTQ+ History Month 2025

2025 celebrates the 21st anniversary for LGBT+ History Month. This year's theme is 'Activism and Social Change'. Throughout history LGBT+ people have been activists and helped shape and create social change, advancing society for everyone using many different approaches to activism.

We are hosting several events over LGBTQ+ History Month and beyond please register for an event below. If you would like to see your event listed please contact the EDI team (edi.team@durham.ac.uk)

The Department of Classics are hosting their annual LGBTQ+ History Month talk details below:

The next Durham Classics & Ancient History seminar will take place on Wednesday 12th February at 1-2pm: Jennifer Ingleheart will speak on "Terence Hearsay in Shropshire: classical allusivity in A. E. Housman's A Shropshire Lad”. This seminar is also the Classics & Ancient History 2025 talk for LGBT+ History Month. Please do also share this with any interested colleagues, friends, or networks within or outside of the university – and check the university’s LGBT+ History Month site for other events this month!

Dr Amy Tooth Murphy specialises in queer history and oral history and uses oral history to record and analyse the stories of LGBTQ people in their own words. Dr Tooth Murphy is passionate about using history to explore and combat inequality and injustice, both historical and in our contemporary world.

Trevelyan College are excited to share information regarding our upcoming LGBTQ+ History Month Lecture which will take place on Tuesday 25th February 5:30pm in the Dowrick Suite.

Our LGBTQ+ Staff Network are hosting some coffee mornings for network members to meet others, take some time out to reset, and provide some ideas/ suggestions on where you want to see the network going this year and in the future.
