How we use your information

Ceremonies are streamed and recorded in order to give those who are not able to attend in person the opportunity to view the event without being present on the day. It also gives graduates the opportunity to purchase footage of ceremonies as a souvenir of a very special event.

By attending a ceremony, you are acknowledging that your image may be captured and processed for the purpose of the legitimate interests described above. Durham University will share personal data with Galaxy Video as its delivery partner and will stream the live images to the Ceremonies website and make recordings available to purchase from My Graduation Film.

Durham University will retain at least one recorded copy of each graduation ceremony indefinitely for the archiving purposes. You have rights in relation to your information, such as the right to a copy of all information held about you. For more information about your rights, please contact the Information Governance Unit.

If you have any concerns about how we handle your information, we ask that you speak to the University’s Data Protection Officer (the University Secretary) first so that we can try to address your concerns internally. You do, however, have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office at any time.
