Technicians inspire the extraordinary at the Professional Services Awards 2024

Our technicians staff have been recognised as making outstanding contributions to the University at our annual Professional Services awards
Technicans play a key role across our research, education and wider student experience environments. This has been recognised and rewarded at our annual Professional Services Awards 2024 where technical colleagues were nominated for their contributions to enable the University to thrive and flourish. Technical staff were nominated across the fourteen award categories as part of 544 Professional Services Staff nominations.
We are delighted to share that technical staff we awarded in the following categories:
Technician of the Year 2024
Award Winner: Aimee Wilkin, Advanced Technician, Department of Geography
Shortlisted Nominees: Abbie Kelly, Department of Bioscience and Oliver Alainis, Department of Biosciences
This award recognises that the University is a signatory of the Technician Commitment which aims to ensure visibility, recognition,
career development, and sustainability for technical staff working in higher education and research. This award recognises a technician who has demonstrated exceptional skills and commitment to contribute to the successful delivery of high-quality teaching and research within a department.
Outstanding Commitment to Others 2024
Award Winner: Ian Garrett, Senior Technician, Department of Engineering
This award is given to an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to supporting others either within the University or the wider Durham community. It recognises the importance of establishing effective relationships and collaborations to deliver our values.
