'Ruth Flowers is a local visual artist with a passion for cats, kawaii and craft-based making. Powered by copious mugs of Yorkshire tea and Japanese snacks, she works from her home studio in County Durham making a range of ceramic homewares and sculptures, incorporating illustrative designs inspired by both physical and digital spaces.
As part of her latest project, ‘Rivers Within’ inspired by symbolism from local folklore legend ‘The Lambton Worm’, Ruth is exploring both our historical and present-day relationships with Durham’s waterways. Combining this with her love of kawaii and nature, as well as inspiration from Durham University’s collections, she imagines a fantastical future for the River Wear capturing it in ceramic form.
