Join the curator of Durham Castle as they explore the recent complex conservation project to protect and preserve the Norman Chapel for the future.

The Norman Chapel inside Durham Castle

Nestled within Durham Castle lies the Norman Chapel the oldest standing building in Durham City, its medieval sandstone pillars and carvings enduring through the centuries. Over the last two years a programme of essential work has been carried to preserve this nationally significant space.

Join us for an enlightening talk led by the Durham Castle curator, who will delve into the history of this internationally significant structure and the ongoing preservation efforts.

This event is free and open to all, but booking is required.

This talk is part of the Thursday Twilight Openings at Palace Green Library. Find out more about the museums and collections from across Durham University, including Archive and Special Collections, the Art Collection, Cosin's Library, Durham Castle Museum, the Museum of Archaeology, and the Oriental Museum.

The World Heritage Visitor Centre and the Museum of Archaeology are also open until 7pm during the Twilight Openings.

Please note, due to essential building work, this talk will be held in Bishop's Dining Room in Durham Castle. Please note there are a number of stairs to this room.
