Toy Box: celebrating toys and games across cultures

23 May 2024 to 15 September 2024

A student-led, family-friendly summer exhibition showcasing toys from across Asia and Egypt to celebrate a simple fact of humanity: we all love to play.

Cartoon of a pink Chinese dragon and a Japanese toy cart

Design by Yuxuan Zhou

Have you ever wanted to learn about dolls inspired by a Japanese empress who may or may not have existed? Play a game from ancient Egypt? See a bear playing an accordion? Every person, across generations and across the globe, has one thing in common: we love to play.

Visitors to this exhibition were invited to come and meet Tao Tao, the loong, or Chinese Dragon, at the Oriental Museum. Tao Tao introduced visitors, their family, and friends to toys and games from Ancient Egypt to 21st century Japan.
