The remarkable Thomas Wright was born in Byers Green, County Durham in 1711. Throughout his life, his natural talent and abilities led him to excel in a wide variety of ventures, including astronomy, mathematics, architecture and philosophy.
He was also recognised as an accomplished maker of scientific instruments, garden designer, teacher and author. This exhibition marked the 300th anniversary of Wright’s birth and tells the story of the life and achievements of this true local hero.
