Bound to Last: Bookbinding from the Middle Ages to the Modern Day
17 November 2014 – 23 November 2014
Palace Green Library
Visitors to this exhibition explored the history of bookbinding, discovered how books are put together and just how recent the ‘ready-bound’ book really is.
Books on display were drawn mainly from Palace Green Library's collections, but also featured unique bindings loaned by other libraries. At the centre was the oldest book in Western Europe to survive in its original binding – the St Cuthbert Gospel – on loan from the British Library.
