Chevening Scholarships

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government's global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at universities in the UK. Durham University is proud to partner Chevening in 2024/25.

In addition to the Open Awards, the University have 10 Partnership Awards open to applicants from all Chevening eligible countries.

All Scholarships are of equal value and follow the same application process. Applicants should apply through their country page on Chevening.org.

Amount Most Chevening Scholarships cover:
  • tuition fees
  • a living allowance at a set rate (for one individual)
  • an economy class return airfare to the UK
  • additional grants to cover essential expenditure

I feel greatly honoured to be awarded the Chevening Scholarship and to study International Relations at Durham University, one of the most prestigious universities in the UK. It's an invaluable opportunity for me to develop my professional and academic skills, which will no doubt benefit my career as a journalist in the future.

Eligibility

Geographical Criteria:

Open & Partnership Awards: Applicants must be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country, and intend to return there for a minimum of 2 years after your Chevening Award has finished.

How to apply

  1. Apply for a course

    Submit an academic application to Durham University.  Provide confirmation of your Chevening Scholarship application to colleagues in our admissions service.

  2. Complete a scholarship application

    Submit an online scholarship application via the Chevening website. Please refer to this webpage for further information about the application process and timelines.

    Please note you must also have submitted an academic application to Durham by 7th November 2023.
