Information Resources

We have dedicated resources such as our diversity guides, which aim to support your individual needs and concerns about areas including:

·       Age diversity in employment

·       Disability and reasonable adjustments

·       Identifying diversity friendly and inclusive employers

We also produce insight articles featuring information on support organisations and positive action initiatives relevant to Durham students and graduates.

Work Experience

Our Work Experience team coordinate dedicated programmes and internship opportunities aimed at students from diverse backgrounds:

Enabling Opportunities – a bespoke programme of tailored workshops and one to one advice and guidance, aimed at supporting students to apply for work experience. Students from areas of lower higher education participation (LPN), lower household income and/lower socioeconomic status groups, as well as students from the North-East, are amongst the eligible participants.

Infinity: internship programme for autistic students - a collaboration between Careers & Enterprise and Disability Support, this support programme aims to provide careers focused support, including workshops and one to ones, to autistic students with the ultimate goal being a funded internship, with one of a number of carefully sourced and supported organisations.

Financial Support

Student Employability Fund - we aim to support students to develop the skills, attributes and experiences that will help them to progress into their chosen destination. Previous funding strands have included: work experience and employment bursary and a technical and professional skills development bursary.

Partnership and collaboration

Disability support - We are delighted that Durham University is now a Next Generation Inclusive University Partner of EmployAbility, to provide enhanced advice and advocacy for disabled students and recent graduates.
