Maths CPT Postdoctoral positions

We invite applications for a two year postdoctoral position in the Centre for Particle Theory, to begin in October 2024 (with possibility of extension for a third year if funding becomes available). Candidates with strong track records in field theory, string theory and related areas are encouraged to apply. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in the University. The position involves working with members of the Maths CPT group and independently to further our research in this area.

Maths Willmore Fellowship

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Durham University seeks to appoint a talented individual to the role of Assistant Professor (Willmore Fellow).  We welcome applications from those with research interests in the broad field of Mathematical and Theoretical Particle Physics and we are particularly eager to hear from applicants with a focus on quantum field theory, string theory, holography, cosmology, solitons, and integrability. This 3-year fixed term position is for candidates who are in the early stages of their research career and have between 2 and 6 years of research experience since their PhD by the closing date of the call. A Durham Willmore Fellowship provides the opportunity to build an independent research career. We advertise on average one Willmore Fellowship each year. Those appointed are expected to be strong candidates for permanent posts in universities at the end of their fellowships.

Research Fellowships

We are keen to support a limited number of strong candidates in applying for EPSRC Fellowships, Fellowships supported by STFC and Royal Society University Research Fellowships. If your profile and interests match our activities, we would be very interested to hear from you. The best initial approach is to contact a CPT staff member in your broad area of interest, informally. We will require a cv and a research statement , to be submitted to our Research Committee via your CPT contact a month before the closing date. In this way we can ensure that it is appropriate that the proposed research be carried out within CPT, and we can offer advice that may increase the application's chance of success. Please note that in some cases the CPT may only put forward a limited number of candidates, and in such cases it will be necessary for us to preselect the best applicants.

Applications for EPSRC/STFC Fellowships will be submitted via the JeS System, and it will be necessary to register for a JeS account. The on-line forms require input from the applicant and from Durham University, so completion well in advance of the deadlines set by the Research Councils is strongly recommended.

The STFC deadline for the Ernest Rutherford 5-year fellowship applications will be in September 2023. Please contact a member of the CPT no later than August 2023 if you intend to hold your Fellowship at Durham.

Applications for Royal Society University Research Fellowships will be submitted via the e-GAP system, and it will be necessary to register for an e-GAP account. The on-line forms require input from the applicant and from Durham University, so completion well in advance of the deadline set by the Royal Society is strongly recommended.

The deadline will be in September 2023. Please contact a member of the CPT no later than August 2023 if you intend to hold your Fellowship at Durham.
