Biography

Xinghao Peng has a strong research interest in studying international enterprises since the beginning of his education and has a clear vision to achieve his goal. To obtain expertise and develop research skills, he undertook various modules related to the international business study and completed one bachelor and two Master's degrees. His works, including dissertation, purse understanding of Chinese multinational enterprises by using comparative case study analysis, panel data analysis, and other quantitative methods. All these works grant him comprehension of CMNEs and develop his skill in doing empirical research. Xinghao attended a module that Dr Dylan Sutherland convened, and Dr Dylan supervised him in his Master's dissertation at Durham University. Taking institutional arbitrage theory as the conceptual framework, they investigated the phenomenon of cooperate inversion of EMNEs and examine the exploitation of tax haven and offshore financial centre of Chinese MNEs by conducting a survey of 120 companies from China. The dissertation received a distinction, and the outstanding performance of his works allowed him to achieve first-class for his degree. Now Xinghao's research plans to further build on his thesis and look at the emergence of Chinese MNEs under the influence of the Belt and Road Initiative. In particular, he plans to investigate the role of overseas Special Economic Zones. Such zones are politically favoured by East Asian countries as an integral component for economic development but are still not well understood.

Mini Biography

Xinghao Peng has a great passion for the study of Chinese multinational enterprises, especially in the aspect of foreign direct investment. During his Master degree study at Durham University, he worked with Dr. Dylan Sutherland to look at the internationalisation of Chinese Business and in particular their use of offshore tax havens and financial centres, and he received a distinction for it. Upon the completion of three international business-related degrees, Xinghao decided to combine his obtained knowledge and his research background to further investigate China's most ambitious but less explored investment project, 'the belt and road' initiative.
