Jan joined the School in September 2012. She is course leader for BA Accounting and Management. Jan qualified as a chartered accountant with the ICAEW having trained with Coopers and Lybrand (now PWC). After working in the NHS as an associate director of business management she moved into academia in 1994.
Working with the accounting programme at Northumbria University Jan developed a passionate interest in teaching and the improvement of both employability skills in graduates and ethical reasoning in accounting education. At Northumbria she received two awards for pedagocical innovation and worked with Oxford Brookes University researching the role of peer and self assessment in accounting teaching.
As a member of both the Audit Faculty and the Financial Reporting Faculty of ICAEW Jan disseminates professional and academic developments in these areas to students. She works closely with a number of accounting bodies in the development, delivery and assessment of professional training and has a particular interest in embedding ethics within this training.
